Water, Walnut and Central Streets In Repair Due to Flood

In early March, Water Street was closed due to excess water that might affect vehicles passing on the bridge near the Wakefield line.

This Tuesday, Water Street was closed once due to the flood two-days of nonstop rain caused. According to Town Manager Andrew Bisignani, the Department of Public Works closed Water Street around 4:30 pm that day but Massachusetts Highway Department divers inspected the bridge later on and decided it was in good shape enough to be reopened but will still be off limits to vehicles until the flood waters subside.

Moreover, the DPW is currently dealing with a major water break at the intersection of Central Street and Walnut Street which Bisignani said will be taken care of by crews working over night if they have to.

Basements around town are also flooded and Director Paul Penachio said that a long night of pumping water out from residences that took on water.

Storm Scours Saugus

The storm that came to Saugus Massachusetts left numerous damages in its wake overnight. The storm brought winds that traveled 60 mph caused an estimated 100,000 families without power when the storm hit.  Trees fell all across town some on vehicles and even houses and then some entangled electric wires  and have fallen on the roads.

Overnight, the neighborhood was flooded and the river threatened to over flow and the winds were powerful enough to blow away a telephone booth out to the street.

From 6pm to 11 am the next day there was still no power in the area although up to 50,000 people already had their electricity restored.

Police have since had their hands full with calls starting 6pm about fallen trees to electrical fires. About 24 reports and calls were made from February 25-26.
